Lectures:

Journey to the Surface – The story of my evolution as a fiber artist and how I arrived at surface design. Includes trunk show. Approximately 1 hour.

Classes:

Beyond the Basics: Learn intermediate techniques of piecing pinwheel and bow tie blocks while making Rebecca’s pattern, Fancy Pinwheels. 2 full days

Finishing Ideas: Borders and bindings, piping and other finishing techniques. Not every quilt needs to be bound. Learn how to do facings and enveloping for a smooth edge finish. Also covered are border ideas, piping, and the perfect binding! Full day

Silk Scarf Play: – Enjoy playing with non-toxic, instant set silk dyes, while designing your own silk scarf. A number of different patterning techniques are demonstrated. – Half day

Arashi Shibori and Silk Scarves: – Learn the arashi shibori design technique to create your own silk scarves. – Full day

Paint Instead of Piece: Create a whole-cloth wall quilt, painting with thickened dyes. Then embellish with thread painting or hand embroidery. – 3-4 days (1-2 day workshop can be created with dye painting only.)

Printing on fabric: Learn several ways to print on fabric to create your own fabric designs. Gelli plate, (or gelatin) is used along with stamping, (create your own stamps) stencils, and brush work.  Full day

What was I thinking?: Transform your “ugly” fabrics (we all bought them and they just sit in our stash) into a work of art. Discharge, over dye, stamp (create your own stamps), stencils, paint, silk screen– 4 day workshop

Dyeing for Color!: The basics of hand dyeing fabric. Learn the basics of color theory and how to mix procion MX dyes to create the colors you want. Practice by dyeing 2 yards worth of fat quarters. Half - Full day

Ice Dye!: Learn the basics of dyeing with ice to create unique patterns on the cloth. Can be combined with Dyeing for Color Half - full day

Screen Printing with thickened dyes: Create unique patterns on fabrics by using thickened dyes and silk screens. Full Day

Layering Color!: Team taught with Rebecca Loew, create one-of-a-kind pieces of cloth by layering surface design techniques. Layer 1, basic dyeing with procion dye, and basic shibori with indigo. Learn a basic shibori pattern and how to mix and care for an indigo vat. Layer 2, over dye, discharge, stamp, (make your own stamps) screen print. Layer 3, embellish with metal leaf, paint. 3 Full days.
